HOW WE DO WHAT WE DO

After the initial translation is completed, the document is reviewed by a second bilingual, category expert for technical accuracy. For this step, The Translation Station only uses professionals who are current on the latest developments in their fields to insure that nothing is lost in the translation.

Once the translator and reviewer agree on the accuracy of the document, it is turned over to editors who review the documents for readability. If graphics or formatting are required, that is also accomplished by bilingual professionals.

Our translators, reviewers, and editors have advanced degrees (such as, Ph.D's, MSEE's, MBA's, MD's) in their fields, and virtually all are natives of the target language country. Our editors are truly bilingual, which means they think in two languages, not just write in them, and we probably have the most extensive testing procedures of any organization in the country.

What is important to understand is that the languages of different countries and cultures have different structures. For example, in Japanese there is no future tense and few punctuation marks, and documents are written with different levels of politeness depending upon who the recipient is.

Equally as important, it is critical to appreciate that not all countries and cultures have the same concepts in their languages as English has. For example, in the financial category, workers in the U.S. are familiar with 401K’s and IRA’s (Individual Retirement Accounts). However, not only are those words absent from the vocabulary of other countries, but the cultures may not even have the concept of retirement in their lexicon.

A good translation needs to compensate for those, and many other, characteristics.
